Article #368 - How do I create a label printer on the TC2677 to use TL Ashford software?
Updated:04-06-2006 - Views: 556
Configuration of the TC2677 uses Telnet to create devices. Since Telnet doesn't allow you to enable Host Print Transform, you must use LPR/LPD to create a remote outqueue.

This can only be accomplished on the TC2677 by using the Configuration Utility to configure the unit. After entering the configuration menu, go to the various tabs, setting up the ip address and terminal sessions. DO NOT configure the printer session at this time. Click OK and Reset the unit to create the display sessions. Your terminal session should now function normally.

Again, using the Configuration Utility, enter the configuration menu and in the Host Connection tab, for the Printer session, enter the host ip address, but leave the Telnet Device Name field blank (this will enable the printer port on the TC2677). Check the box for Disable Auto Creation of Devices (this option is not available in the keyboard setup), preventing the host from creating a 3812 printer with a random name.

Go to the Printer Port Settings tab and set the Printer Driver to Generic. Select the appropriate Port setting for parallel or serial. Many parallel attached label printers are not able to handle the speed of data transfer from the TC2677 in which case you will need to select Slow Output for the Parallel Port Speed. From the keyboard, press alt, alt, L which will drop the host session. Click OK and Reset the unit.

From a host command line, type CFGTCP and enter, then select option 10. Add the ip address of the TC2677 and the Host Name, enter any unique name you would like to use (even your desired printer name) and press enter.

From the host command line, type CRTOUTQ and press F4. Enter a unique name for the Output Queue, this will be the name of your printers queue, and if desired, this name could be the same as the name used with the cfgtcp command as listed above. For Remote System, enter the name you used when creating the Host Table entry in CFGTCP.

For Remote Printer Queue, enter LPT1_NB_NT_NFF which will print to the parallel port of the TC2677 as well as suppress the banner, trailer and blank page. For the serial port, enter COM1_NB_NT_NFF.

Select the following options:

Writers to autostart, enter 1.

Connection type, enter *IP.

Destination type, enter *Other.

Host print transform, enter *Yes.

Manufacturer type and model, enter *WSCST.

Workstation customizing object, enter the Customizing Object provided by TL Ashford for your printer model.
Library, enter TLABARCODE.

Enter a Text Description for the outqueue if desired and press enter to create the Outqueue. The writer will be active and ready for printing.
